The Dendy Sister, Brighton

Ian asked us to design an eye-catching contemporary home on Dendy Street.

The soft, delicate form of the Dendy Sister contrasts against its rectilinear, bronze clad neighbour with a fluted façade composed of white, nude and and blush tones. Generous indoor and outdoor living spaces make up the majority of the ground floor, and a spectacular spiral stair rises beneath a circular skylight to the first floor bedrooms.

  • The Dendy Sister presents a highly original façade that has become a recognised landmark within the neighbourhood. Its fluted concrete fins and softly curved cream-and-blush bands create a tactile, sculptural presence that shifts with the light, drawing the attention of passersby who frequently stop to admire its detail. The salmon coloured cylindrical stair expressed on the street front adds another layer of visual intrigue, anchoring the composition and revealing something of the home’s internal experience. A large skylight sits over this stair, flooding the entry with natural light, while maintaining privacy from the street.

Conceived alongside The Bronze House and designed to sit comfortably as its contemporary counterpart, The Dendy Sister stands as a distinct architectural statement — complementary in scale and ambition, yet entirely individual in character.

Inside, the home is tailored for empty nesters who love to entertain, with flexible indoor–outdoor living, a secluded pool terrace, and a circular skylight drawing daylight through the centre of the plan.

Efficient planning and future-focused design ensure enduring comfort, longevity and value for its owners, while the project’s strong street presence contributes positively to the identity of the wider precinct.

The house contains 5 bedrooms, all with walk in robes and ensuites, while the master suite features a large southern terrace spanning the entire width of the house. The rear, ground floor terrace features covered, heated outdoor entertaining spaces, with operable louvres and a secluded pool and spa area which provides a tranquil backdrop to the formal and informal living areas.
